Roll for the Cure
August
14, 2010
Hobbs, New Mexico
Route
Announced:
1.
The
Roll for the Cure will provide three different routes including a metric
century (100K), 50K, and 25K options.
The
Roll for the Cure will have one of the widest ranges of cyclists –
something
for everyone. Highly
competitive, intermediate, and novice cyclists will participate –
with the ability support them all.
The 100K route is a fast route with only
modest rolling inclines.
Ride with prior profession cyclist, pro tour announcer, Chad
Patterson. The shorter
routes are exceptionally well supported and have forgiving terrain.
Courses
are exceptionally well marked.
We
will have police
escort and support,
ride
marshals, motorcycle
escort, and SAG
vans.
We
will have a certified
bicycle mechanic on hand before and during the event.
Comprehensive
hydrations stations (with port-a-potty)
exist every
10 to 15 miles – 3 hydration stations are planned for
the 25K route, 4 for the 50K route, and 5 for the 100K route.
Hydration stations will have water, sports drink, ice, fruit,
and sandwich sections.
An
end of the ride free
meal is included in the modest registration fee.
This
is an excellent
preparatory ride for the Hotter N Hell event – similar
route, road conditions, and weather.
If you are considering the Hotter ‘N’ Hell (which is a
terrific event), you really should do the Roll for the Cure first.

Wolf Creek Ride & Reggae 100k
Inaugural Pagosa Springs cycling event on July 31st, 2010!
You’ve probably heard of Wolf Creek Pass—more than 400 inches
of snow each winter and elevation of 10,857 feet. in summer when the
snow melts this pass is an epic Rocky Mountain Ride! The road is
great, featuring twisting, turning, grinding grades that pitch upwards
of 10%. This route has been laid out in typical GECKO fashion, netting
a 100k ride (and 5,500' of vertical) that will take more time and test
your lungs more than your typical century ride.
Why just ride when you can ride and
relax? Pound the pedals to almost 11,000 ft. then groove on back to
the park for an afternoon of soaking in the river, enjoying amazing
reggae music from renowned artist Pato Banton, sip a cold beer and
enjoy great food! This family friendly event is just the way to
chill on a mountain day in July. Ride hard, rest easy and support a
great cause in the process. Spend the night in one of our great
hotels and soak in our world famous hot springs. Pagosa Springs,
Colorado is located at a cool 7,200 ft.
The Festival portion of our event is family friendly and put
together for you to relax and enjoy. The festival begins at noon in
town park right at the finish area. Several food vendors will be on
hand with everything from smoothies and sandwiches to burgers and
fries. Breckenridge Brewery is a primary sponsor and will be
here with their amazing brews (yes you have to buy them...) but cool
and refreshing none the less! Reggae artist Pato Banton rocks You
can check him out here http://www.patobanton.com and
music will be provide from 1:30- 6:00 p.m.
For the kids we will have a "bouncy room" (or two) a face
painter and other cool activities to keep them entertained while you
chill. The San Juan river is a few feet away and the perfect place
to cool off your burnt quads. The festival wraps up at 6p.m. A
short walk over to one of the three Hot Springs locations would
be the perfect way to soak away the day.
Event Details:
This is a USA Cycling non-competitive benefit ride. The ride begins
and ends right down town Pagosa Springs in Town Park. Two distance
options: 100k with 5,500' of elevation gain. 48 miles, direct route
with 4,200' of gain. Both rides have the pleasure of climbing to the
Wolf Creek Ski area. This means you get to cross the summit twice!
It also means you get to take a break at the ski area, refuel,
hydrate, take a Paul Sherwin style "Natural Break" and
then head back to town. The course will be well supported with
volunteers but the road will be open and all traffic laws will be in
effect. Start time will be "rolling" time window from
7a.m.-7:30a.m. for the long course. 7a.m. - 8:00a.m. for the short
